About the Piece
This image is a visual representation of Bruno Giacosa's Barolo Riserva La Rocche del Falletto. The late Bruno Giacosa was widely heralded as a maestro in a region peppered with superlatives. He was legendary for his facility at coaxing characterful, expressive wines from both Barolo and his home base of Barbaresco. The image celebrates the wine's density, concentration and depth without ever losing definition or elegance. Each flavour appears clearly delineated, building in volume and richness to a gloriously triumphant finish.
About Sarah Heller
Sarah Heller is an artist of mixed Asian and European descent living and working in Hong Kong. Drawing on her background as a Master of Wine, her work attempts to capture the subjective experience of tasting wine and explores the synthetic work of imagination required to recreate and share that experience. Her series titled Visual Tasting Notes focuses on individual wines and the pieces are meant to be read narratively from top to bottom, tracing the wine from initial impression to final aftertaste. Each one is a collage of hand painted, digitally painted and photographic fragments.
